Jeffe Gallego Jr. and Haji Jose Bonda, for the first time in history, made a remarkable bout when the two snatched a bronze medal in the Elementary Volleyball Boys during the Palarong Pambansa 2018 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last April 15-21.
Representing Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA), Cadiz athletes Gallego and Bonda joined with other players from Iloilo province to represent Region VI in the country’s biggest sporting event.
Gallego and Bonda, who are students of Cadiz West 1 Elementary School, are trained and coached by principal Eleuterio Samson Jr.
A first-timer in the Palaro, Reshane Marie Nicor of Cadiz West II Elementary School seized a gold medal in the Badminton Elementary Girls Team Tie. Lolie Javier coached Reshane.
Mervonne Shayne Nicor, the Palaro’s one of the most decorated athletes for four consecutive years, clutched a gold medal after winning in the Taekwondo Elementary Girls.
Coached by Dexter Chavez, Mervonne studied at Northern Negros Private School.
On the other hand, for 14 years already, NCR still holds the over-all champion, with 100 Gold; followed by Region 4-A Calabarzon, with 55 Gold as Rank 2; and Region VI – Western Visayas, with 46 Gold as Rank 3.
