A Cultural Mapping Training and Workshop was conducted by the Cadiz City Tourism Office last March 4-6, 2020, at the City Health Office Conference Room.
With the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) as speakers/ facilitators. They were Delan L. Robillos and Vida de Juan.
There were 65 participants who came from the Department of Education, Barangay Officials and the Local Government of Cadiz City.
The 3-day workshop discussed and dealt about the cultural heritage that people often take for granted. It was a re-awakening moment from the participating sectors to know and be fully aware of what Cadiz truly has.
According to the participants, doing the cultural mapping was a challenging work, from collecting data to its measurements, and every intricate detail needed for a certain item, be it tangible or intangible, movable or immovable heritage.
During the open forum, the participants also said that the training and workshop added a sense of attention and utmost care to all that surround us.
They also said that Cadiz City is very rich with its cultural heritage but sometimes, they simply pass by a well or “BUBON” or maybe a tree not knowing it was already a century old, a coffee cup from their grandparents maybe 70 years old or more.
“The memories that hold them will always linger in their hearts and that certain heritage will be passed on from generation to generation”, they added.
The 6-month calendar of activities on cultural mapping will be delegated to different sectors by the City Tourism office, headed by Juanily O. Pedrosa./*
