Employment breaks through sewing training for Cadiz residents

Mayor Salvador G. Escalante Jr. has inked an agreement with Metro Wear, Inc. of Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu province for employment opportunities for the Cadiz City residents through sewing training.

Metro Wear, Inc., a Chinese-owned garment industry, has conducted intensive seamstress/seamster training last February 21, 2022, at the Cadiz Viejo National High School in Barangay Cadiz Viejo.

With 167 participants interested in learning about sewing and working with the company in Cebu, the 17-day sewing course will end on March 15, 2022.

According to Janward Obas, a company trainer, all trainees will automatically be hired by the MWI to work with its branch in Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) in Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan Island.

The participants are introduced to machine set-up, safe handling and use of equipment, essential sewing machine maintenance, development of sewing skills, seam sewing, neatening, and item production for sale through stitch social enterprise.

Larry Villavicencio, 18 years old, of Barangay Banquerohan; Christian Sastre, 18, Barangay Caduhaan; and Tessa Longno, 29, Zone VI, are the three of the 167 participants who said they are grateful to Mayor Escalante and have considered themselves very lucky when they availed of the project.

They are all jobless and excited to learn, explore and work, they added./*
